Relevant information: my Mandarin Chinese has an American accent and a Taiwan accent (as opposed to the "standard" Beijing accent). I am not a native speaker of Japanese (studied it for 4+ years).

Hi! I'm interested in reading the Saving Face fic Yum Cha. It's almost all in English but there are a few Chinese words - mostly character names and food words - that I could use help with. Can I email you when I'm getting started?

Definitely! Er, I haven't watched the movie yet, so I don't know... do you know if the words are Canto or Mandarin? Just because "Yum Cha" is Canto...

Eep, I don't know. The characters are Mandarin speakers but there might be a bit of Cantonese for the food.

No prob! I will watch the movie soon and try to see what I can catch, and check the fic out as well. I can help with the Mandarin, and for Canto I could probably ask my mom, but my pronunciation is really terrible =(.

Finally watched the movie! Also realized why I got so confused... the fic says Wil speaks Canto for a bit, but in the movie, everything's basically in Mainland-accented Mandarin with a few bits in Shanghainese.

But yes, I can definitely do the Mandarin for you, and hopefully without too much of a terrible accent. I suspect the food terms will remain in Canto because it's dim sum, and I will try and ask my mom about those. Eh, just warning that my accent is terrible!

Hi! This is not for the chromatic podfic challenge, but I figured I could at least ask if you wanted to help out anyway: I'm recording a Firefly fic, and I wonder if you could help me with the pronunciation of a couple of phrases in it.

Hi! Yes, I definitely can! I think Firefly is kind of odd in that the random Chinese dialogue is in Mandarin, but the ship announcements are in Canto... so I can help with the former but am clueless re: the latter.
