Hey podficcers, just one more reminder that the main challenge is closing a week from today. We hope you can finish up and post the podfics you've been working on by midnight your time next Friday.

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder that the challenge deadline has been extended an extra two weeks, so instead of yesterday it's two weeks from yesterday, March 30th. Thanks to those who have posted and we hope to see a lot more over the next couple weeks.

Posting period has been extended an additional two weeks to end on March 30. Hope the added time gives you all a chance to finish editing your podfics!

I apologize for my total failure to put up any more reminders, but posting period does open today, as you may have seen with [personal profile] luzula and [personal profile] kalakirya's posts earlier. If you need hosting, please be sure to email your podfics to me if you have not done so already. If you are supplying your own hosting, feel free to go ahead and make a post to this community at any time this week until March 16. Once your podfics are posted here, you are quite welcome to post them elsewhere, such as [community profile] amplificathon or Archive of Our Own.

(Since I was lax in putting up reminders, I'd be happy to provide any extensions to people who need them. Just comment to this post or send me a PM letting me know how long you need so I know when to put up a masterlist.)

A few days late, but sign-ups are now officially closed!

All podfics should be recorded by 2012 March 2. If you need hosting, please email the audio file to tarigwaemir at gmail dot com by the deadline. The mod will post these podfics to the community.

If you don't need hosting, please go ahead and post your podfic to the community anytime during the posting period: 2011 March 2-March 16. (If you won't be around during the posting period, notify the mod, who will post the podfic for you.) Be sure to include the following information:

There's still a few days left to sign up for this year's Chromatic Podfic Challenge! Sign ups will close on Saturday, January 28.

For those of you who want to participate but can't decide on which fics to record, last year, I asked the community to leave comments with fics that they especially wanted to listen to as podfic. Feel free to check out the old list...and please comment here with more links to fic that would be great performed as podfic or general prompts for what you might want to see from this challenge (e.g. podfic featuring a certain chromatic character or podfic recorded in a certain dialect or language).

Also, I'd like to welcome [personal profile] sophinisba as the new co-mod, both for the community and for the challenge!

Rules

1. Podfic submissions should meet one of the following criteria as outlined in the community sticky post.

2. You must obtain permission from the author of the fic (unless, of course, you are reading your own fic). Please make sure that the author is aware that you are sharing your podfic on this community. If the author has already left a comment on the authorial permission list or has in some way or another given permission in advance, then you don't need to contact them separately, but if not, please get in touch with them.

3. More than one person can sign up to record the same fic. Similarly, collaborations with more than one reader are also welcome.

4. Sign-ups will close on 2012 January 28. You are welcome to record and submit additional qualifying podfics that are not mentioned in your initial sign-up, if you have extra time before the deadline; just let the mod know.

5. Record your podfic by 2012 March 2. If you would like the mod to provide hosting, please email your audio file to tarigwaemir at gmail dot com by this deadline.

6. If you do not require hosting, post your podfic anytime during the posting period: 2011 March 2-March 8. The mod will post all podfics received in email.

7. All participants are welcome to submit their podfic to the audiofic archive and/or crosspost to [community profile] amplificathon after their podfic is posted on this community.

8. If you plan to podfic a story that isn't already written (i.e. if you plan to orally narrate a new story yourself or if you want to collaborate with a writer who will write a story specifically for you to podfic), just make a note of it in your sign-up instead of providing a title, and describe how the planned podfic will fit the challenge requirements. (E.g. be sure to mention the fandom and character(s) the story will feature or the dialect/language you plan to record in, depending on what aspects meet the challenge requirements.)

If you plan to participate in the [community profile] chromatic_podfic challenge, please comment to this post with the following information:

Name:
Contact info: (either a Dreamwidth/LiveJournal account that receives PMs or an email address)
Fic title(s) and author(s): (see clarification below)
Dialect/language: (if applicable)
Hosting needed? (yes/no)

* As a point of clarification, the idea is to help people go into the challenge with some sort of plan, so please don't view sign-ups as a binding commitment. You're welcome to sign up with several possible fics that you want to podfic, even if you end up running out of time for all of them. You're also welcome to record a fic that you didn't sign up for, as long as your podfic still meets our community criteria.

The community sticky post includes a list of links that may be helpful, including a pronunciation/language beta list and an authorial permission list.

ETA: Sign-ups are now closed!

Hello everyone! I'm planning on opening sign-ups for another round of [community profile] chromatic_podfic soon and wanted to hear your thoughts.

Last year, we opened sign-ups on January 8 and closed on January 23rd. Podfics were due on February 28th--about two weeks for sign-ups and about five weeks for recording podfics.

This year, I'm considering opening sign-ups on January 13 and closing them on January 28, with podfics due on March 2. Does that schedule work for everyone? Would people like more time for sign-ups? More time for recording? Let me know!

ETA: Also, while running this challenge is not that much work, I could use the help of another co-mod, just to divide up the posting duties a little. If you're interested, please PM me!

[community profile] amplificathon is running their annual challenge from April 4 to June 20. I encourage participants to crosspost any chromatic podfics here!

At [community profile] dark_agenda, [personal profile] phi asked for authors to provide permission in advance for recording fics featuring characters of color, so be sure to check out the list of authors for inspiration.

One day left for the "listener's feedback" challenge! It's still a very close race right now, so if you want to win a short podfic, go for it!

It's officially the end of posting period! However, since I gave a few people extensions, I will hold off on putting up a full masterlist until they have had the chance to post their podfics.

Thank you to all the wonderful readers who participated in this challenge and made it a success! The number of submissions far exceeded my expectations, and I am so thrilled to have so many new podfics to listen to.

The listener's feedback challenge will be going on until 18 March 2011, so if you've enjoyed listening to any of these podfics, please leave comments! The top three commenters will be able to request a podfic for a short fic (≤ 1000 words) of their choice from one of our volunteer prize readers. (If you would like to volunteer to read a prize podfic, then please leave a comment at the link!)

In the meantime, while the challenge may be over, this community will remain open to posting of any podfic that fits one of our criteria, so please do feel free to share or rec chromatic podfics here.

Finally, let me ask you all for some feedback on the challenge itself. Would you like to see this challenge happen again next year? If so, should the timing be changed to a different point in the year? Did the format of the challenge work for you or would you like it to be structured differently? Would people be interested in a chromatic podfic exchange?

Hopefully, the previous post made it clear that posting period is open. If you need hosting, please be sure to email your podfics to me if you have not done so already. If you are supplying your own hosting, feel free to go ahead and make a post to this community at any time this week until March 5. Once your podfics are posted here, you are quite welcome to post them elsewhere, such as [community profile] amplificathon and the audiofic archive.

In the interests of encouraging feedback for all the wonderful podfic readers who participated in the challenge, I'm also thinking about holding a "listener feedback challenge" from now until March 19, where the top three commenters would each receive a short podfic (≤ 1000 words) as a prize. Since not all listeners may want a podfic read by me, I thought perhaps they could pick from a pool of willing podfic readers. Please leave a comment if you are willing to be a "prize" reader! (Or even just provide alternate suggestions for appropriate prizes for feedback.)

You have a little over a week left to sign up for the Chromatic Podfic Challenge! Thanks to everyone who has already signed up!

For those of you who may still be deciding which fics to record, I thought the members of the community could leave links to fics that they would like to hear as podfic. (Or even more general prompts, such as podfic featuring a certain chromatic character or podfic recorded in a certain dialect or language.) Comment here with your chromatic podfic wishlist!

Also check out the links on the authorial permission list, which is going strong at 27 authors so far.
troisroyaumes: Painting of a duck, with the hanzi for "summer" in the top left (Default)

As a point of clarification, a podfic only has to meet one or more of the following criteria to qualify:

  • recordings of fics for fandoms with chromatic creators

  • recordings of fics featuring chromatic characters

  • recordings of fics in English dialects associated with chromatic cultural groups (including creoles, pidgins, ethnolects, etc.)

  • recordings of fics in non-English languages associated with chromatic cultural groups

Thus, a reader can still submit podfic in a dialect or language that is not associated with chromatic cultural groups, as long as the fic itself is for a fandom by a chromatic creator or features a chromatic character (#1 or #2).

If the podfic submission only qualifies under #3 or #4, it does not matter whether the fic being read was originally written in the same language as the podfic.

Since chromatic sources and characters appear in all linguistic backgrounds, you are welcome to provide pronunciation/language beta services for any language or dialect, not just those that are specifically associated with chromatic cultural groups.

There are of course no hard and fast boundaries when it comes to the term "associated with chromatic cultural groups", and the community policy is to be as inclusive as possible as long as the podfic fits the spirit of the rule. The reason for the chromatic dialect or language option is to provide a space for PoC/non-white/non-Western/chromatic fans who speak these dialects or languages, where they can submit podfics in their own tongues without feeling any pressure to speak in a "standard" English.

To provide some concrete examples, any of the following can be posted in this community: A list of examples )

Please feel free to contact the mod with any questions!
